News and Media Literacy Toolkit

The Media Literacy Council has collaborated with Common Sense Education, a US-based organisation that provides high-quality digital citizenship resources to educators and school communities, to create a toolkit for youth to build their media literacy skills. Targeted at students from the ages of 13 to 18, this toolkit provides educators with the resources to equip students with the core skills they need to think critically about today's media.

The kit will cover three main topics:

  1. Teach Fake News - the media literacy skills your students need to evaluate the reliability of news sources
  2. Retouching Reality - the purposes and contexts of digital photo manipulation
  3. Fact vs Opinion - the strategies for determining differences between facts and opinions
